Declan Bridgeport
Name: Declan Eric Bridgeport
Age: 16

History:
Declan Eric Bridgeport is the youngest of four boys. His mother, Megan, works night shift as a nurse at a local A&E. She was married to Michael Aaron Bridgeport for twenty years before he took off and left her behind with four boys, child support, and a house payment. Declan was six. When he was seven and his Dad stood him up again, he threw a tantrum and set the rug on fire. Whoops.
Declan - called Dec by his friends - is the only wizard out of the bunch. His three older brothers - Michael, Jr., Daniel and Jeremiah (Dan and Jer are identical twins) - all thought it a hoax when his Hogwarts letter arrived. It took a wizard from the Ministry and Hogwarts to convince the family that the letters were not hoaxes and Dec actually was going to be going to a wizarding school.
Going to Hogwarts was an adjustment for Declan. He doesn't understand the lack of email, texting, or anything else. Really, he was looking forward to getting a phone at 13! And now... there are owls. Owls make no sense at all.
Not only do owls make no sense, but there are no video games! TRAGEDY. Look, he's an 11-year-old boy, who'd rather draw than play outside, and rather play video games than draw. Honestly, going to the wizarding school is a punishment. Or so he tells his mother for his entire first year there.
But, then he meets Daisy. She supposedly really special because she's the cousin of Harry Potter!... Dec has no idea what that means, but he supposes it's cool? And flying on brooms is pretty cool too, even if he thinks Daisy is ridiculous when she gets on hers.
He does not play Quidditch. Nope. Those things are dangerous. Ignore him while he sketches while everyone else becomes ridiculous about the sport. But he does show up and support Daisy.
He likes his mother's current boyfriend. Her boyfriend owns a local chippy, and Declan sometimes helps out there during the summer. It's not glamorous, but it does keep him in video games. And since his mom is a gamer too, they have plenty of systems/games around the house.
Dec wasn't allowed to get an owl, for his animal at Hogwarts. His mom hates the idea of birds-as-pets, especially birds that have wicked sharp talons. So, instead, he got a furry little white cat that he named Midnight. His mother despairs of him sometimes.
But Midnight goes back and forth to Hogwarts with him and is always on his bed when it's time for light's out. She sleeps with him all night and then spends the day roaming the castle, usually with Mrs Norris.
Dec is a very good student, especially at Transfiguration and Charms. He sucks at Potions, and even needs extra tutoring so he doesn't completely fail them. His other utterly horrid subject? History of Magic. He just doesn't like history and it's boring.
He enjoys more artistic films than he does action. Save, the DC movie franchise. Marvel's fine, but, man... he loves him some Wonder Woman. (some of his love comes from the Batman video games, of which he has played many.) He ugly cried at The Shape of Water. It was not pretty at all.
He sometimes helps Daisy with her YouTube channel. Not often, and only during the summer, but it's definitely something that they enjoy doing together.
Dec's father is a doctor. Said doc left his wife of twenty years for a younger model, who ditched him because she traded in for a younger model. Then, during his fourth year, the man had a heart attack/stroke, and passed away, painlessly. It made things a lot easier on Megan financially. He did have to leave school for the funeral, but he only missed a couple days. Then, he was very confused for a while about it. Because he suddenly had all this family that wanted to "get to know him" but couldn't be bothered before, and he was just like "Yeah, no."
Personality:
Dec is a pretty typical kid. He has his likes (video games) and his dislikes (potions homework) but he's also got a few quirks here and there, that will definitely either endear him to someone, or make them wonder wtf he's on.
Because Dec? Dec believes that women are not only stronger than men (case in point: Mom) but they don't need a man to do a damned thing for them, including knock out assholes. Look, he's seen Daisy punch out a guy, crack her knuckles, walk away and start making daisy chains or whatever it is that girls do after they've just knocked out a seventh year while only being a third year.
Dec also is a huge animal fan. If he can get away with it, he's taking extra courses in Care of Magical Creatures, because he wants to see all the animals. All of them! He's often sitting outside near the pens, just drawing them, because that's fun for him.
Dec also is not a troublemaker. Except. He will blame it all on Daisy, even though it's usually his fault they get caught. He's very good at Charms, and has charmed a pair of notebooks that they can write back and forth in, using chatspeak, so if they ever get found, no one knows what the hell they're saying. (Except McGonnagal. Sigh.)
Dec loves his brothers, but turning them into newts is sometimes so damned tempting. He's a mama's boy, but not in a weird way. His Mom and him talk about video games and school, and everything else, via owl during the school year, and text during the summer. He loves his mom and behaves himself for the most part because he doesn't want to make her life harder.
Dec is also Catholic. Would go to Mass every Sunday, but school. So, ya know.
